The first thing a casino player asks themselves when stepping up to a game is "how do I improve my odds?"
The answer in Baccarat is easy: you don't.
Other than avoiding the Tie bet there's nothing you can do.
What about card counting you ask?
After all, everyone seems to do it on TV. Save yourself the trouble because it's a facade.
Statistical analysis has shown that card counting in Baccarat is totally ineffective until the game hits the bottom of the shoe and even then it's a miniscule advantage.
It basically boils down to paying yourself $10 an hour for risking $1,000,000. You're better off getting a squeegee and washing people's windows for spare change.
The Basics
Baccarat or Punto Banco is usually played in a separate casino area. The playing table is about the size of a craps table with three casino dealers and up to 12 or 14 players.
There are just two principal bets to make: banker or player - Banco or Punto, plus the rarely used Standoff. Some casinos let the players deal the cards in turn and others have a casino dealer to deal the cards. In online Baccarat the cards are dealt automatically by a virtual dealer.
Each player, including the player dealing, may bet on either Punto or Banco but it is customary for the dealer to bet on Banco. Players may opt not to deal, passing the 'Shoe' to the next player. The shoe remains with one player as long as the Bank wins. If Punto wins, the shoe passes on to the next player.
Two hands are dealt and you bet which one will win, or that they will tie. It is just like betting on Black or Red at roulette, and the payoff is even money, 1:1 (except for the standoff, which pays 8-1 or 9-1).
BACCARAT
Baccarat is a game of chance and skill between you and the Banker. It is played with a single standard deck of 52 cards. There are three types of bets and the game odds are high.
The objective of Baccarat is to predict whose hand, the Banker's or the Player's, will be closer to the value of nine. You can also bet on the possibility of a tie.
Payout Schedule
Winning hands in Baccarat depend on the hand you bet on, and whether that hand wins.
If the hand you bet on wins, the payout is as follows:
Hand Combination - Payout - Banker's Hand Wins 2x the bet - 5% commission on win amount for the House
Player's Hand Wins 2x the bet - Tie 9x the bet
If the hand that you bet on wins, you are paid double your bet, unless you bet on a tie. If you bet on a tie, the payout is nine times the amount you bet. If you bet on the Banker's hand, and win, the House charges a 5% commission on your win amount. For example, if you bet 100 and win 200, you only pay 5% of the 100 win amount, and not of the 200 total winnings. 5% of 100 = 5, so you are paid 195.
If you bet on a hand, and the hand loses, you lose your bet. If you do not bet on a tie, and the hands tie, your bet is returned to you.
